Vampire AU - Vatheon Verse
[Marie ran her fingers through the hair of her new pet. The taste of his blood was still on her lips and she smiled as she wiped the bit of her own blood from his. The wound she'd opened in her wrist had long since closed and now she was just waiting for him to awaken.
It would be better this way. He could stay with her and Rayflo forever now and nothing would ever hurt him. He was so sweet. So kind. And now he was hers. Rayflo wouldn't mind. She knew he loved the boy as she did, he would understand and be happy. He would smile at her like he used to, that smile he saved just for her whenever he'd come back from a journey and she would run to greet him. He'd smile and call her his princess.
Now she could have her knight and her prince! A happy family that could live together.
Marie smiled a little wider and hummed a tune Rayflo used to hum to her when the nightmares came for her. No nightmare touched her now and there would be none for Sola either.]

But there's a soft voice, a quiet tinkling of pleasant laughter that draws him to the waking world. He doesn't fight it, though he does not want to go. Something tells him he shouldn't be there but he's drawn ever upwards until...
Until everything is a dissonant cacophony of light and sound and smell. His mouth tastes like stale copper, even the soft petting of small hands in his hair is unbearably loud. He can't think, can't breathe-
...or he can, he's simply not...
He feels so strong, so not like himself. He holds a hand to his eyes as if expecting something to have changed but his fingers are the same fingers, his legs the same legs as he sits up to look at them. Only now he sees them with perfect clarity. Every variation in color or tone, every pattern of texture in his flesh, every wrinkle in the fabric of this clothing, the movement of which makes him wince with how loudly it rings in his ears.]
What's going o-.. on...
[He trails off, tentatively poking at his elongated incisors with his tongue. They were long before, but now they're downright...]
..fangs?

Oh, good! You're awake, my dear Sola! What do you think? Aren't you happy? I've made you better and stronger! Now you can stay with me and Rayflo forever!

[The last thing Sola remembers even vaguely is Johnny getting up to go out for the evening, planting a brief kiss on his forehead and strutting out to meet Fai or Otoha or whatever. Sola had long since stopped being jealous of them. If two years and several months together hadn't been shaken by such things, there's no point in wasting energy on fretting about it.
Of course, when Marie had appeared in the bubble, things had changed. The little princess ruled the apartment, expecting everything handed to her with garnish and a smile. Johnny had explained it was because of her status but Sola would sometimes take umbrage with her manner of demanding everything - and Johnny caving immediately. He dotes on her, though every time Sola began to pout over it he would do the same to his matesprit too so it wasn't all bad. In fact, aside from her imperious nature, Sola found himself playing with Marie more than once. She is fairly cute at times.
But this... well, this isn't cute at all to say the least. He lets out a quiet pant, bringing his hand to his neck and sliding it away to find blood there, a dripping wound.]
You bit me?
[It's not something he can say he's never thought of, being a vampire, living forever with Johnny, but he knows Johnny wouldn't want to do that. There are still lingering negative feelings about what he is, even as much as Sola attempts to dispel them, and so he's honored his matesprit's wishes and not brought it up. And now...
And now he looks at Marie, only he's not seeing her and her bright but slightly crazed smile. He's focused completely on her neck, blood pumping. He can smell it, metallic, slightly sweet, somewhat stale from circulating through a technically deceased body for hundreds of years. The sound bleeds out of his perception, all but the throbbing of the vein, the beating of her heart.]
no subject
Yes, I did. We're a family, Sola, we're supposed to stay together!
[He wasn't looking at her and that kind of annoyed her until she realized he was looking at her neck. He was hungry, just as she had been when she'd first been turned. She pulled back the sleeve of her dress and offered her arm.]
You're hungry, aren't you? Go ahead, drink.

And the two of them missing at the same time raised questions in his mind.
He didn't really know what to expect when he finally picked up on their scents and followed them, but it wasn't the sight of Sola's mouth on Marie's arm and the heavy scent of blood in the air.
His mind went blank as he stared, almost as if it refused to process what his eyes were telling it. It was Marie's blood, and Sola seemed to be drinking it. When his princess looked over to her knight with a smile, he snapped and tore forward, putting a hand on each of their shoulders and pushing them away from each other.]
What are you doing?
[His eyes darted to Sola.] Why were you-!? [And then he could smell it, underneath the strong scent of blood, it was there, the change.
And then it was Marie's turn to fall under Johnny's glare.]
You turned him? Why!?
[The girl could see the hurt and anger in her Rayflo's eyes and she didn't understand it. Wasn't this better? Why wasn't he happy and smiling that smile he saved only for her?]
I thought....we could be a family this way. We could stay together forever and nothing would ever tear us apart. I thought you would be happy....

He wipes his mouth, eyebrows furrowing, knowing why Johnny is angry, feeling shame not for what he's become, but for being complacent in his transformation. He's not upset, not for himself. He feels strong and enduring and the background fear of someday having to die by old age or sickness is no longer present. No, he's upset for the look on Johnny's face, for the panic in his voice.]
I-I'm sorry... She...
[He'd been asleep. He barely remembers it, the sharp bite to his neck and the coppery taste on his tongue before he'd awoken. He'd had no choice, he knows, yet still his voice is soft and laced with shame.]
I didn't ask...

Johnny stepped back and turned away, a hand running through his hair. He didn't know what to do.
After a moment, he turned around again, glanced at Marie before kneeling next to Sola. He reached out to gently stroke Sola's cheek, fear and worry mixing in his eyes.]
If you're still hungry, then drink from me.
[This much made sense to him, at least.]
no subject
[Johnny had made such a big deal before about drinking from others that Sola is so hesitant to agree, but he can hear the blood pumping through Johnny's veins, he can smell it, and he can't help his eyes flicking to Johnny's wrist as his matesprit runs his hand down his cheek.
But no. No no. He can't. He doesn't want to hurt him, Johnny had said it hurt others do feed from them and the last thing Sola wants to do is hurt the person he loves.]
I'm not hungry anymore...
[The lie is painfully obvious.]
no subject
Don't lie to me.
[He brought his wrist up to his mouth and sliced it open on one of his fangs, letting the blood run down his arm. He knew it was a little cruel, newborns were always hungry enough to drop more than one adult human, and the scent of fresh blood would sometimes drive them wild, depending on the individual, but he wasn't going to give Sola a choice.
He held his arm back out, perfectly content to let Sola drain him, if he needed to.]
Drink.

[The words die on his tongue as he watches, mesmerized, as the rivulet of blood tracks along Johnny's pale flesh and slowly colors his entire vision. There's nothing else in his world save the sound of a beating heart and the metallic scent.
His fangs sink in and Sola drinks long and deep, utterly unaware of his actions.]
no subject
He didn't intend to stop Sola, even as he grew lightheaded and his vision blurred; if this was all he could do for his boyfriend, then he would do it completely.]

With each swallow, however, that haze of bloodlust decreases, the newborn vampire comes back to himself and eventually wrenches his mouth away from Johnny's arm, horrified at what he's done. The weary look on his matesprit's face is enough to claw at his heart and plant a deep shame there. He wipes his mouth of excess blood, leaving a smear across his forearm.]
Johnny? Are you alright? I'm so sorry, I-I didn't...
no subject
Don't apologize. I'm glad. Do you feel better?
no subject
[His worry is nearly palpable as he carefully puts his arms around the taller vampire in a preemptive effort to keep him standing. He looks as if he's going to keel over.]
no subject
I'll be fine. I just wanted to make sure you were okay; I know how hungry you were feeling. It's normal.
no subject
[Actually that's a relief. He's already a replica, it's not as if he needs more things wrong with him. He shakes his head to clear it, not the time! He's worried about Johnny, not himself.]
Come on, you should lay down.
[He maneuvers Johnny to the bed, shooting Marie a look to at the very least scoot over if not shoo altogether.
This is her fault.]
no subject
She stood and dashed out, figuring one of them would follow her.
...though, she wasn't going far. Just far enough that they should start acting correctly and come after her.]
Princess Marie-!
[Johnny tried to call after the retreating girl, but she didn't stop..and he didn't want to go after her and let Sola see him weak. He should have reacted better...somehow. She was only a little girl...and the state of her mind was his fault, which made sola's state his fault as well. A bit of weakness was the least he deserved.
He looked to Sola and shook his head.]
She's upset. How do you feel?
[He allowed Sola to lead him to sit on the bed, but he didn't lay back, eyes glued to Sola; concerned.]
no subject
[He feels at a fang with his tongue, uncaring as to what happens to Marie for the moment. He's angry with her, so angry, because Johnny didn't want this and yet here Sola is, fangs and strength and heightened senses and he feels so guilty because he likes it. He's told Johnny for all the two and a half years they've been together that he doesn't see how being a Vampire is bad and from a first-hand view he still doesn't other than his worry that Johnny will reject him for it. He knows his matesprit hates what he is, even as Sola accepts it.
He shifts uncomfortably, looking at Johnny's arm where the bite is all but faded after the elder vampire's licked the wound shut.]
...did it hurt? Marie's bite didn't hurt me at all, but...
[He's drank a lot more than she did.]
no subject
[Johnny reached out for Sola's arm, tugging on it to pull him closer so the older vampire could hold Sola's hands, his eyes on the ground behind the shorter man.]
I'm sorry this happened
no subject
[He curls his fingers around Johnny's longer ones.]
I'm not even that angry, not really. I just thought because you'd get so upset if I ever brought it up... but I feel better, stronger than even when Zelda fixed me.
[He catches himself smiling and looks down, ashamed at the knowledge that Johnny believes this to be terrible while he does not.]
Are you mad?
no subject
Not at you.
[What was done was done, now he had to try and do his best to help Sola...even if his boyfriend didn't hate his fate as much as Johnny did, he could still try and help.]
Don't drink from anyone but me, okay? If you drink from a person you'll never be able to see the sun again...and that might not seem like much now, but you'll miss it.
[His grip tightened a little and he looked up to red eyes.]
No matter how often it is, tell me when you're hungry, okay? Don't try and push your limits out of some desire to not feed.
...I'll take care of you.
no subject
[Sola paces to the wall from the bed, running a hand back through his hair and dislodging his hat. It comes away in his hands and he looks turns it over, feeling the texture on his fingers and every weave made out in sharp detail to his enhanced vision.]
I don't mean I won't eat at all, I just mean I'm not going to hurt you. I don't want to. I hate it so I won't.
[He looks at the wall for a moment, then back at Johnny. There's a straightness to his posture that hadn't been there before, an upright confidence that seems to have come with this change. He no longer feels the layman, walking in Johnny's shadow but not comprehending his experience. Now he has an idea, a knowledge, and he is beginning to understand.]
Promise me you'll tell me when to stop. I want you to teach me how to be like this, so I don't hurt anyone, especially you. Will you..?
no subject
They always hated him afterward...at least when he did it. And he didn't want Sola to be miserable because of this glorified blood disease. Granted, he wasn't so blind he couldn't see Sola's new demeanor or change in presence, it was obvious when the vampire's attention was almost always on the younger man whenever he was around. But...how long would it last? He was confident and proud once too...
But, the fact remained that he couldn't change it, no matter how much he wished to, and living in denial would only hurt Sola more than help him. Look at Marie, the entire cause for this. Johnny had been young when he'd turned her, he could hardly know what his own limits were, much less teach her hers, and look what had happened: whole villages slaughtered in the course of a few hours. He wouldn't do such a disservice to someone he loved so dearly.
Golden eyes stared, dully, at the ground...but, finally, he nodded.]
Yeah...yeah, I'll teach you.
no subject
He sits on the bed next to his matesprit, raising a hand to his cheek.]
Please don't be sad. I know you don't want this, that you're mad, but...
[He's struggles with the words, trying to find a way to explain.]
I was going to die. Not soon, but... someday, I was going to just whither away and be gone and it scared me. More than the thought of dying in a fight or something, dying from old age is so scary because there's nothing you can do, but now I won't. I don't feel like I have to hurry and do everything all at once, and...
[He smiles, that special smile just for Johnny.]
And I don't have to leave you, or get old and wrinkly while you stay the same. I think that would be hard.
