[Sirius threw the handful of floo powder into the fireplace, calling out the address of who she wanted to talk to. It had been a little while, too long in her opinion, and she could only hope the man wasn't too busy to talk.

Carefully, she went to her hands and knees, sticking only her head into the emerald flames.]

Oi, Li? You there or is the little bundle giving you too much grief?

You're always welcome, Sirius, you know that. [After all, she was the one they- he trusted with being his secret-keeper for real this time.]

As for me... It's hard to leave Harriet behind when she's all I have left - no offense. I don't know what I'd do, where I'd go. [His eyes fell on the letter brought by owl earlier today.]

[Were it anyone else, Liam might've been surprised, but knowing Sirius and having become accustomed to wizarding habits, he just stood up to reach for the letter.]

I'm not tired - that's part of the problem. [He extended the letter toward Sirius.] And you're not the only one who's noticed my wasting away. [He accentuated that with a dismissive hand motion, then crouched near Harriet.]

Dumbledore's offered me a job at Hogwarts - not as a teacher, rather as something that could "make better use of my talents and temperament."

What about Harriet? That's brilliant for when she's 11 and attending, but she's three for Merlin's sake, Sirius!

[He was clearly conflicted.]

... I did think about it, though - what it would be like to serve as Patron alongside Madame Pomfrey. Making potions and counter-charms not for some obscure theoretical reason, but for children and teachers who make that slightest mistake in their spellcraft or Quidditch game. [He smirked a little in Sirius's direction.] Never a dull day, I'm sure - even a little nostalgic.

Perhaps you should let Remus volunteer for such an intense task.

[There were equal amounts of concern and chastising in his tone. This was still his only daughter, as much as he trusted Remus's judgment in a crisis over Sirius's.]

We're also not talking about a weekend holiday here - Hogwarts faculty don't just go off for the night to their own beds. I'd have, what... summers and the odd Hogsmeade weekend with her? In all that time it has to be Remus taking care of her - or you - and what of full moons? They'll still happen, Sirius, and I won't be around while you protect your husband.

[It was not disdain in his voice, not hate or contempt for Remus being a werewolf; it was a practical worry. This was a necessary evil in Remus's life, to keep himself away from everyone while he suffered from his disease, and during the day he was lethargic at best.]

Mine either. [He was referring to the children, as depressing a thought as that was to bring up.]

You really think so? I mean... Should I write to Dumbledore now? See what he has in mind? I never did spend much time in the Hospital Wing except for visits.

[That brought a fond smile back to his face.]

"We'll see." He stood up and walked towards the other room where his desk was. He dropped back briefly to point at Harriet, then Sirius, then waggled his finger as he left the room again. He'd write to Dumbledore, set up a meeting, and from there... Who knew? He might have secured Harriet's future.
